DM FOR STORY REPLIES · INSTAGRAM AUTO DM
LiveFor anyone sharing products, campaigns or announcements in stories. When someone replies “join”, “link” or a word you choose, your link or a message with a button arrives in the same chat within seconds. Even while you're busy with something else.
Example scene: someone replies “join” to example.studio's “October workshops” story. The reply lands in the DM chat with the story quoted and matches the “join, link” rule; a message with a button linking to the sign-up form arrives in the same chat. The reply “so beautiful” doesn't match the rule, so no DM goes out. The reply “LINK” gets the link to the series page.
How stories differ
A comment happens in front of everyone; a story reply goes straight to the DMs. That's why the rule works a little differently for stories. For comments, see: Comment → DM.
The reply is already private. Everything happens in the same DM chat; nobody has to read “check your DMs” in the comments.
The rule doesn't disappear with the story. It also answers replies to every new story on your account.
A message sent to your story triggers it. Viewing or liking the story doesn't.
Instagram allows a response to a story reply within 24 hours. Normally the response goes out within seconds.
How it works · 4 steps
You set up the rule once. After that, each story just says what to reply; VoltraChat handles the replies.
A short call like “Reply ‘join’ to sign up” is enough. The word becomes the easiest way for viewers to ask for the info.
Choose story reply as the trigger. Pick specific words or all replies, then write the message to send. The public reply field from comment rules isn't here.
A story reply opens a DM chat on Instagram. VoltraChat checks the rule and, if it matches, writes your message into that chat within seconds. This is how it looks in your inbox.
If the person writes back, you see it in your dashboard inbox along with the time left to reply. When you write manually, the automation steps back for that person.
Use cases
Messages to your story usually ask for the same thing. Say the word in your story and let the rest happen in the DMs. These are examples; you choose the word and the text.
Show the product in your story and say “reply for the price”. Everyone who does gets the product page by DM.
Announce your weekend campaign in a story. Whoever replies “CODE” gets the discount code by DM; when the campaign ends, you pause the rule.
Whoever replies “link” gets your product series, blog post or any page on your site with one tap. No digging through your profile.
Post a “we have open slots this week” story, and whoever replies “appointment” gets your booking link. If they ask a question, the chat is in your inbox.
A workshop, a live stream or an opening. With flexible matching, the word “join” also catches “joining”.
Without looking for a word, send a thank-you and a link to everyone who replies to your story. The per-person rule applies here too.
Settings and control
A new rule starts with flexible matching and sends the link in the first message; you can switch to a message with a button. Rules are saved as drafts, run once you switch them on, and can be paused anytime.
The rule listens to replies on every story on your account. If you like, you tie the rule to a single story; then it listens only to replies on that story.
Up to 20 words per rule. Choose “All replies” and words are ignored: every written reply triggers it.
Flexible: “LINK”, “links” and “link??” all count. Exact: the word must appear as written; you can turn on tolerance for a one-letter typo.
The link goes in the first message (how a new rule starts), or a button goes first and the link arrives on tap. Write the message a few different ways and they rotate.
Turn it on and the link only goes to people who follow you. When you turn it on, the dashboard spells out Instagram's rule on this; one click removes it across all rules.
Before saving, it catches phrases that don't follow Meta's rules (income promises, “check your DMs” and the like). If some wording doesn't follow the rules, the rule isn't saved.
Trust and rules
These rules come ready and are on in every plan: sending stays within the limits Meta sets, and texts are checked against Instagram's rules when you save. You're in control
There's no daily limit. A story reply is a conversation that starts in DMs, so it doesn't count toward the hourly limit for comments either; from day one, on every plan, it goes out within Instagram's official limit. If Instagram says “slow down”, the account sends at most 20 DMs an hour and 100 a day for 24 hours; once that's reached, new replies get no DM, and the dashboard shows why. Why
The same automation runs for the same person once every 24 hours; at most 3 automated flows start for one person in 24 hours, and at most 10 in 7 days. At most 2 automated DMs go out per hour; a link the person asked for isn't held back by this limit.
You see who got what in your dashboard; pause an automation anytime with one click, and it sends no DMs until you turn it back on.
If the person writes “dur”, “stop” or “iptal” in the DM, they get no more automated messages, and they can't be messaged manually from the dashboard either.
When you reply manually from the dashboard inbox, any unfinished flow with that person stops and no new automated message starts for 30 minutes.

Yes: you can tie a story automation to a single story; if you like, you can also set up a rule that listens to all your stories. You can tell stories apart by their word too: say “code” in a campaign story and “price” in a product story, and set up a separate rule for each word.
Yes. There's no daily limit; story replies don't count toward the hourly limit for comments either, and from day one they go out within Instagram's official limit. If you choose “All replies”, yes: whatever is written to your story, a DM goes out. If you choose “Specific words”, only replies containing those words get one.
The same automation runs for the same person once every 24 hours; at most 3 automated flows start for one person in 24 hours, and at most 10 in 7 days. Anything beyond that is skipped, and the reason shows in your dashboard. If the person keeps chatting with you, you see it in your inbox.
No. Instagram allows a response to a story reply within 24 hours. Normally the response goes out within seconds; if for some reason it would go past 24 hours, the message isn't sent.
